Paul E. Robey, Sr.
Plymouth, MN
Elected: 1992
Shooting Member
Paul
Robey started shooting in 1965 at St. Cloud. He and some
friends were shooting league at the Richfield Bloomington Gun Club
and the manager asked him if he was going to the "State
Shoot." Well, even though he wasn't sure what he was
talking about, he went and a friend told him to "play all the
money."
He did and he got
lucky and broke a 99 in Class B. That night he went home
with a big silver tray and some cash. But Saturday in the 200
Championship Singles he came back to earth with a 191 in Class A.
The bug had bitten him.
Some highlights of
Paul's shooting career include a total of 38,350 singles targets
for a lifetime average of .9728, total handicap targets 29,250 for
an average of .8825 and 18,050 doubles targets for a .9274.
Between May 1966 and September 1967 Paul earned the 27 yard line,
once at 27 yards he earned 14 honorary yards. Paul was on the
Minnesota All State Team 1966-1975 and on the All-American team in
1970.
1969 ATA Central Zone
All-Around Champion with a score of 393 X 400, high in the nation.
Minnesota State Singles Champion in 1971, Minnesota Central
Zone Champion and Central Zone All-Around with a 394 X 400.
Minnesota State High-Over-All and 2nd for High All-Around in 1974.
Paul acquired many other state, local and non-resident titles over
the years.
In addition to his
fine shooting, Paul also served for 8 years on the MTA board of
Directors. He served as a Director, as Vice-President and two
terms as President in 1972 and 1973. While Paul was active
in the MTA the State Zone Shoot Program, still in place today, was
started.
