George Pappas is being inducted into the Minnesota Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in the shooting category.
George has accumulated a total ATA target count exceeding 280,000 targets. He joined the ATA in 1992 and recorded his first targets at the Jack Meade Gun Club in Procter, Minnesota. He has won numerous trophies including 31 at our Minnesota State shoot, and 45 at the Grand American and various Satellite Grands. He has been on the ATA All-American team three times with his most recent selection in 2023. He has been on our state team 11 times with his most recent selection in 2022. He earned his AA27AA recognition in 2006. He has been an ATA life member since 2012. George’s first trap targets were at the Jack Meade Club in 1977 where he shot in their leagues.
George has been very active as in our trap shooting community as well. George has been an MTA Director, Alternate Delegate, and Delegate. He has volunteered to set targets at our state shoot. His donations to our youth fund auctions have been outstanding. He donated fishing trips and a Lab puppy each year for six years, netting our association’s youth fund over $15,000. He started the walleye Wednesday night feed during our state shoot. He fully donated the fish the first year and prepared, cooked and served the fish for all three years.
George has been on the board at the Jack Meade Club in Proctor for over 35 years. As a board member, George is not a person that just fills a chair, he works. For the last several years George has served as the club President. He has also been their maintenance person, trap mechanic, supply procurer, snow plower, and business manager. He has also been responsible for the club’s success developing a solid youth program. To date they have six high school teams and a college team shooting targets at the club. George was instrumental in getting the programs started at all seven schools as well as currently coaching two of the teams. Together, the revenue generated by the kid’s teams makes up 80% of the club’s total dollar revenue.
Besides trapshooting, George enjoys fishing for walleyes and hunting deer. His favorite though is duck hunting. He has traveled to several states and to Canada to hunt ducks. He is married to Pam and together they have six children and 20 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Congratulations George!
