He graduated from St. Michael Catholic High School in 1963 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he worked in shipping and receiving on the U.S.S. Saratoga. Harold CyrSeptember 12, 2021 Harold Cyr 92 of Oklee, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at his residence with his loving family by his side. Harold Anthony Cyr was born on April 13, 1929 in Crookston, the son of Frank and Leontine (Beaudin) Cyr. He attended school in Oklee, graduating in 1949. He was drafted into the US Army in February of 1951 and received an honorable discharge in December of 1952. On August 4, 1953 he married Shirley Ann Turgeon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and they celebrated 68 years of marriage this past year. Together Harold and Shirley ran the store until a fire in 1997 led to retirement. All the while Harold and Shirley ran the store it was a place, not only to get the things you might need, but a gathering place for a cup of coffee and a good story about hunting, the weather, or about the “old days” in Oklee. He spoke French to everyone, whether they understood or not. Harold had many “sidekicks” over the years, retirees that came to visit the store as part of their daily routine. He continued to fix shoes and do woodworking in a shop that he had behind their residence. Other than his family, Harold’s greatest passion was hunting. He hunted deer, loved to chase fox and coyotes, but his real love was to hunt waterfowl. When they were still in the store, most of October and November, Shirley would open so he could pursue his passion. Any time that he could have a shotgun in his hands, it was a good day. He also loved to shoot trap and competed in ATA trapshoots when he was able. He was always proud of breaking 199 out of 200 at the North Dakota State Shoot in Grand Forks. He also participated and won events in league shooting in Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls.

George Leisure1938—2013 Through all the hardship and the pain, George and his wife Sue fought the tough fight with dignity and fortitude. As I said “Good-bye” to him for the last time on Thursday of last week at his home in Cambridge, Minnesota, he expressed to me how much he admired all of you and always looked forward to the next ATA Registered Shoot and once again stepping to the line to hopefully “Break ’em all”! He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack, and first wife Mary. George is survived by his wife Susan of Cambridge, children Patrick Leisure Sr. of Cloquet, Michael Leisure of Cloquet, Timothy Leisure of Minneapolis, Melissa Hass (Michael) of Big Lake, Russell Flett (Tammy) of Princeton, six grandchildren, Patrick Jr., Riley, Gavin, Maddy, Mason and McKenna, brother Elmer Goodroad of Florida, as well as numerous other relatives, loyal friends and neighbors. Visitation and service will take place at Carlson – Lillemoen Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 311 South Ashland Street, Cambridge, MN 55008 (Phone: 763-689-2244). The visitation will begin at 10:00 am Friday morning the 4th of October and the service will follow immediately at 11:00 am. A lunch will be provided after the service. To honor George and his love of Trapshooting, his one request was that his ashes be spread at the Beaverbrook Sportsmen Club in East Bethel, Mn at each of the six fields in the target landing area and by Friday afternoon his wish will be granted and he will be in his final resting place. Shooting Bio on George Leisure George Leisure was first introduced to Trapshooting in 1980 and became an ATA member in 1982 and an ATA Life member in 1983. For the past 32 years, George has been an exemplary example of a shooter who has dedicated his time, support and many talents to the sport of Trapshooting by his participation in the ATA and serving as President of the Beaverbrook Sportsmen Club in East Bethel, MN for over eight years. An advocate and volunteer for all the shooting sports, George lived his passion for trapshooting and was instrumental in creating the platform for ATA events, a ladies league and youth leagues at Beaverbrook Sportsmen Club in the 1980’s. He was always available to help anyone who was interested in learning more and bettering themselves as a shooter. Whether shooting league or at an ATA registered event, George has been willing to have fun and share a joke and a smile with those around him. George registered 250,100 singles, 58,825 handicap and 172,600 doubles over his 30 years as an ATA shooter. He attended 12 Grand Americans and for years traveled to and participated in registered shoots in 35 states including the Southwest Chain and the Spring Grand American in Tucson, AZ. George you had a way of touching the lives of everyone you ever met and will be truely missed! You gave so much of yourself to others and we are all the better for it. Image above is at George’s May 12th, 2013 Honor Shoot at Beaverbrook Sportsmen Club in East Bethel, MN. The turnout was terrific and so appreaciated by his family. Pictured are George and his very close trapshooting butddies (Bob, Don and Tom) that made the trip from Iowa and South Dakota for the Honor Shoot. George told me last week how much he loved shooting all those targets over all those years, with these three men.

He spent a large portion of his time in the Army as a cook at Elmendorf Air Force base in Anchorage, Alaska. Other than his time in the service, he was lifelong resident of Oklee. On August 4, 1953 he married Shirley Ann Turgeon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and they celebrated 68 years of marriage this past year. Harold worked at a variety of jobs including trucking, chief of police in Oklee for three years, on the missile base in northeastern North Dakota and on various pipeline jobs before taking over Cyr Hardware in 1969.
